Eighth Fire Prophecy

This section of the mural represents the Eighth Fire Prophecy, an Anishinaabe teaching that speaks to the present era and the opportunity for reconciliation, understanding and a shared path forward between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Birds, fish and symbolic forms stretch across the mural, connected by a continuous black line.
Set against a background that transitions from deep blue to warm orange, the animals feature vibrant colours and internal spirit lines characteristic of Woodland art, reflecting the belief that all life has both physical and spiritual dimensions. The flowing black line connects the figures and represents the relationship between people, animals, water and the natural world, as well as the continuity between past, present and future.
The Eighth Fire is inspired by the teachings of the Seven Fires Prophecy, which foretold significant events that would unfold over centuries, including the arrival of new peoples to Indigenous territories. The Eighth Fire represents the time we are living in today, when Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities have an opportunity to move forward with mutual respect, truth and understanding.
