What you need to know before you drive

Driving on Highway 407 ETR in a rental vehicle works a little differently than driving your own vehicle. Because a rental company owns the vehicle, toll charges are billed to the rental company first, then passed on to you based on your rental agreement.

Before you drive, ask your rental company how toll charges will be billed and whether they charge any additional service or administrative fees.

Visit our Toll Calculator to calculate your trip before you drive.

How Tolling Works

Highway 407 ETR is an all-electronic toll highway. There are no toll booths to stop and pay — your trip is recorded automatically as you drive.

Can I use my personal transponder in a rental vehicle?

A personal transponder is only meant to be used in the vehicle it's registered to.

If you choose to use your personal transponder in a rental vehicle and it's not detected by our system, charges will be billed to the rental company directly and cannot be transferred to your account.

How Billing Works

Charges incurred in a rental vehicle are billed to you by the rental company. Your total cost will include Highway 407 ETR toll charges, plus any fees charged by the rental company.

  • Charges are billed to you by the rental company based on your rental agreement

Please note that you may receive your bill from the rental company a few months after travelling, depending on the rental company's billing process.

No. Driving offers don't apply to rental vehicles. Driving offers are linked to a personal customer and the vehicle(s) registered in their name.

Toll charges may take time to be processed and sent to the rental company. The rental company then bills you after identifying your rental period.

Contact your rental company for questions about billing, fees or timing, as they bill you directly and manage any additional fees.
